Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra Presents "Rhapsody in Blue"
Meet some of music’s boundary pushers and barrier breakers with a featured side-by-side performance with the next generation of musicians, the Lake Michigan Youth Orchestra. Relish a gem from female composer Fernande Decruck. And enjoy the unique opportunity to hear Daniel Hsu, a Gilmore Young Artist award winner perform. Hsu, who won the prize in 2016, is an American classical pianist.
The sounds of gospel, blues and jazz meet the orchestral stage with Duke Ellington’s Black, Brown, and Beige, his musical illustration of African-American history. Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue concludes the SMSO’s Mainstage season with the raucous and joyous energy of city life.
Attend the pre-concert conversation at 6:30 p.m. to listen to SMSO Maestro Matthew Aubin as he explains the history behind the pieces to be performed at the 7:30 p.m. concert and his passion for the music.
Admission: Adult tickets are $38/$23, Students ages 6-17 are $6
