Live Music: Stephen Philip Harvey

Event published by Box Factory for the Arts

Original jazz compositions and arrangements by Stephen Philip Harvey will be performed by his Octet during a special Sunday, June 18th concert at the Box Factory for the Arts, 1101 Broad St., St. Joseph, MI. Tickets for the 5 p.m. concert are available at https://ticketstripe.com/sphoctet. Cabaret seating is $20; general admission is $15; and at the door $20.
Harvey is an African American saxophonist, composer, arranger, and educator. As a musician and bandleader, he has performed extensively in Western Pennsylvania, Northeast Ohio, and the Eastern Shore of Maryland. He also has performed with the First Class Big Band, the Ohio Players, The Akron Symphony Big Band, the Youngstown Jazz Collective, The Big Nasty, The Black Wolf and the Thief, and many other musical projects.
The octet features Harvey on tenor saxophone, Tim Green on alto saxophone, Marques Carroll, on trumpet, Reggie Watkins, on trombone, Dan Bruce, on guitar, Ben Tweedt, on piano, Tony DePaolis, on bass, Dustin May, on drums. Boasting their own individual touring histories, the ensemble brings a dynamic voice to Harvey's compositions.
Elemental, the octet's current project, was inspired by the classic elements of water, air, earth, and fire. Fusing modern harmonies, driving vamps, and a myriad of textures, Harvey brings these forces of nature to an aural landscape. The Elemental CD was released in May by Harvey's label, Hidden Cinema Records.
