Merritt Family and Younger Family Preserves

Together, the Merritt Family and Younger Family Preserves protect 60 acres of forest and wetland habitat, including moist southern forest and southern hardwood swamp in various stages of regrowth. The preserves lie along a tributary of the Galien River and are part of a larger network of nearby protected and undeveloped natural areas. This continuous forested corridor, or “greenbelt,” provides important habitat and travel routes for wildlife such as deer, songbirds, butterflies, and turtles. By connecting with surrounding natural lands, the preserves help maintain a larger, healthier landscape for native plants and wildlife.
