Summer Festival & BBQ Competition

The Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce announced today that the Dowagiac Summer Festival and BBQ Competition is accepting registrations for the BBQ Competition.
On July 19 & 20 downtown Dowagiac will close Front Street and enjoy all the smells of summer. The 2nd annual BBQ Competition is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society.
Matt Money Events & Marketing for the Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce, “We are excited to welcome the 2nd annual BBQ competition to Dowagiac. Last year the event attracted people from all over the nation and we are ready to make the event bigger and better this year.” The competition will take place on Saturday, July 20th.
The two-day festival will host food trucks, commercial vendors, in-store promotions, live music, and children's activities which include a new splash park on Commercial Street along with amusement rides.
Southwestern Michigan sponsors the event and will host the annual Steve’s Run. Emily Shrock, Alumni Relations and Development Coordinator for SMC, said, “In the last 16 years alone, Steve's Run has raised over $180,000 for cancer research and student scholarships. To continue the tradition, the 50th Steve's Run will start and end again in Downtown Dowagiac.” Named the Original Road and Trail Race, Steve's Run will take participants through the paved roads of Dowagiac, a golf course, a cemetery, and the Southwestern Michigan College wooded trails. Race starts at 6:00 pm and registration can be found on www.swmc.edu under events
Following the race Oak + Ash will host a beer tent with live entertainment “Black River Band’ from South Haven, MI from 6:00 - 10:00 pm
Registrations for the BBQ Competition and vendor booths and event details are available on the Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce website, dowagiacchamber.com under the Events tab. The Chamber’s Facebook page will share all the activities surrounding the events.
