Lest We Forget presents a FREE Patriotic Concert in recognition of Veterans Day -- Nov 5, 2023.
Join in this community celebration honoring veterans and their families as the Southshore Concert Band, led by Dale Reuss, and Lest We Forget present their annual Veterans Day Patriotic Concert on Sunday, November 5th at 2:00 pm at Lake Michigan College Mendel Center in Benton Harbor. This is a free event.
The 78 members of the Southshore Band will be featuring traditional patriotic songs and salutes for the branches of the service.
The theme for the concert, Music of the Cold War Era, is designed to musically assert our American ideals through the performance by the Southshore Concert Band, including instrumental, vocal, and visual selections from Sinatra, Elvis, Beach Boys, Paul Simon, Motown, Doors, Chicago, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones and The Beatles. After World War II, the United States and its allies, the Soviet Union, and its satellite states began a decades-long struggle (1947 - 1991) for supremacy known as the Cold War. The Cold War developed a heightened fear of communism in America.
The music we listened to was a critical cultural tool used by the U.S. government to gradually disseminate the American way of life into the hearts and minds of Soviet citizens. The men and women who have sacrificed to protect and defend those American ideals as members of the United States military forces will be remembered and honored throughout the program. Additionally, a tribute will be paid to the Lest We Forget members who have passed on by showing their photographs during the singing of "The Mansions of the Lord."
Prior to the start of the concert Lest We Forget will honor all veterans by taking their photos starting at 1 p.m. and continuing until 1:45 p.m. Complimentary photos will be mailed to the veterans.
