Visit this one-stop resort for all your Southwest Michigan vacation needs!
Your search for a high-end hotel in Southwest Michigan is over. Tucked into an area looking over the St. Joseph River is a premier, year-round resort destination — the Inn at Harbor Shores, 800 Whitwam Dr., St. Joseph.
This resort has been in business for almost seven years, providing high-end luxury to Southwest Michigan visitors.
“We have quite a bit of Chicago guests of all ages and income levels,” Director of Sales Elizabeth Hacker said. “We have many returning guests year after year, and plenty of our wedding couples return yearly to celebrate their anniversary with us.”
A lot of families also bring their children to stay in one of the 92 rooms with a balcony view while enjoying the area and local beaches.
If you plan to stay at the hotel, you won’t have to go far for food. The resort has two restaurants, a coffee shop and a dockside bar on its property. Plank’s Tavern on the Water offers river views and American eats with upscale brunch options until 3 p.m. daily, appetizers, fish, sandwiches, and more. Torch & Tapas gives guests a flavorful meal with the same menu, but invites guests to sit outside in the summertime next to fire pits. Rise and Vine is your stop for coffee and breakfast by day and wine tastings at night. Lastly, the dockside bar offers quick eats and cocktails for a more casual meal.
“We also have our indoor and outdoor pool, hot tub and the Spa at Harbor Shores, which offers facials, couples massages, pedicures and more,” Hacker said.
From mid-April to October, guests can go solo or bring a private party to explore the St. Joseph River with a 2-hour trip on the resort’s cycle boat, the Harbor Hopper. Get up close and personal with the area by renting a kayak, canoe or bicycle. Have a boat of your own? The marina at the resort has seasonal slips for you to park your boat while you enjoy the land. Fishermen or aspiring anglers can even take advantage of the resort’s fishing charters. If you’re a golfer, you’ll want to make sure to tee off at Harbor Shores Golf Course during your visit. This 18-hole course was designed by American golfing legend, Jack Nicklaus, and hosts the Senior PGA tour biannually.
The Inn at Harbor Shores is open 24/7 year-round, but the onsite amenity hours may change seasonally. During the off-season, you can still peruse the second-floor art gallery in the mezzanine. Here, you’ll find the awe-inspiring work of regional artists.
Just because it’s a little colder out for some of the year doesn’t mean the view is any less spectacular. Harbor Shores has over 12 miles of walking and biking trails to help you get some fresh air and see the area all at once. You can also head into downtown St. Joseph with the resort’s shuttle service. Stop by some shops, grab a bite to eat from local restaurants and take in the view of Lake Michigan.
If you come for a visit and want to return, you could plan an event in one of the resort’s event spaces or the large ballroom. Or, if you’d like to have a longer visit, the resort has luxury condos right on site available for purchase.
“A lot of guests might not know that we are independently owned rather than a chain,” Hacker said. “We are a one-stop shop with everything that our guests need for their vacation, and we do a lot for the community with give back nights in our off season and donations to nonprofit organizations.”
