Five Extra-Delicious Foodie Finds in Southwest Michigan
If you’re like me, you’re always searching for unique eats when you travel in Southwest Michigan. Here are five foodie finds to make your trip extra delicious:
1. Raspberry Chicken
Tabor Hill Winery & Restaurant | Buchanan
An iconic entree for decades, the raspberry chicken at Tabor Hill combines the crunchiness of a pecan crust with the sweet-tart decadence of a raspberry sauce. When the Moersch Hospitality Group purchased Tabor Hill, the restaurant menu changed but the raspberry chicken was untouchable. The chef serves it with garlic parmesan risotto and a seasonal vegetable. The winemaker suggests pairing it with Tabor Hill’s Classic Demi-Red.
2. UJ’s Sunburst Pizza
Silver Beach Pizza | St. Joseph
The description sounds odd but hear me out. This Silver Beach Pizza pie created by local John Carolla is a unique blend of flavors that will surely thrill your adventurous spirit. The pizza takes a standard pizza base and adds fresh yellow squash, zucchini, mixed sweet peppers, mushrooms and cherry tomatoes, then tops it with spears of asparagus. Trust me — your taste buds will dance for joy!
3. Onion Rings
Clementine’s Too | St. Joseph
This restaurant, which overlooks the St. Joseph River, measures the number of onion rings served yearly in miles. They serve the golden brown, fried onion rings on pegs with bowls of homemade buttermilk ranch. Clementine’s has mastered this old classic! This popular eatery also has one of the region’s most extensive adult and children’s menus, including gluten-free and vegetarian options and a full bar.
4. BBQ Carrots
Houndstooth | Benton Harbor Arts District
Chef Cheyenne Galbraith does amazing things with fresh ingredients; these sharable carrots are mouthwatering. She blends orange, red onion, and cumin cream to make these root vegetables impossible to stop eating — regulars will tell you to order more than one plate!
5. GF Tuna Poke Lettuce Wrap
Round Barn Brewery & Public House | Baroda
Never disappoint your palate with Public House’s pub-fare menu, including this light and refreshing lettuce wrap. Every crisp mouthful fuses the flavors and textures of Saku tuna, poke sauce, avocado, green onion, toasted sesame seeds, and yuzu mayo. Delicious!
