The Livery Mural

The stunning mural "Continued Legacy," jointly created by artists Dorothy Jean Carter, Megan Canon, and Dean Campillo, adorns two buildings at The Livery and tells the story of Benton Harbor.

This vibrant artwork seamlessly weaves together the rich history of Benton Harbor and the African American community chronologically. The mural begins with a striking portrayal of an ancestor donning a headdress, which symbolically carries ancestral knowledge passed down to present-day residents. Additionally, the mural features depictions of fruit trees, sunrises, musical notes, and various faces, all paying homage to the area's historical journey and its current state.

Before its creation, the three talented artists collaborated closely with the Benton Harbor Arts Association and The Livery for nearly six months.
