The Harbor Country Mission (HCM) Mural
The Harbor Country Mission (HCM) is a charitable organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families in the surrounding area who are facing financial hardship and poverty. Through the dedicated efforts of volunteers and staff, HCM provides a wide range of services including home repair assistance, distribution of essential home goods, simple appliances, and valuable life coaching.
One of the notable features of HCM is its 5,000-square-foot warehouse, which serves as a vital resource for the community. Within this space, HCM provides storage facilities and operates a "free room" specifically designed to assist individuals transitioning from temporary living arrangements such as hotels, shelters, or family residences.
The warehouse also serves as the canvas for a stunning mural created by the talented artist Matt Coronado. In his distinctive and vibrant style, Coronado has brought to life the natural beauty of the plants found along Lake Michigan, incorporating symbolic elements such as butterflies, which represent hope and transformation, and a hummingbird, symbolizing resilience, perseverance, and happiness. This striking mural enhances the visual appeal of the warehouse. It serves as a powerful symbol of the mission's commitment to providing support, hope, and encouragement to those in need within the community.
