Are you or your kids crazy about LEGO® bricks? Then the next six weeks are a great time to spend in and around St. Joseph. That’s when 10 host sites are stacking up family-friendly entertainment during the Eighth Annual Build Your Way Around Town LEGO celebration, Feb. 27 through April 11. Feb. 27 | LEGO Builders’ Bash Family Fun Night | 4:00 to 8:30 p.m. | Silver Beach Carousel | 333 Broad Street, St. Joseph
Be the first to see the 100 LEGO and DUPLO brick creations created by local youth displayed in the Carousel House. Visitors can meet this year’s builders, ride the Carousel for only $1 and ages 3-13 years can enter free hourly prize drawings.

See the 100+ LEGO/DUPLO creations, ride the Carousel, play games, watch the miniature trains and explore the hands-on exhibits at the Silver Beach Amusement Park. While you are here, visit the refreshment stand for fun snacks and The Brass Ring Gift Shop for toys, gifts and collectibles from their new spring collection.
Feb. 28-March 1 | LEGO Big City Build | Friday and Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 5:00 p.m. | Shadowland Ballroom | 333 Broad Street | St. Joseph
This must-see annual event features professional builder Jason Spears and the Western Michigan LEGO Users Group. They will create a magnificent cityscape with replicas of buildings from Benton Harbor, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo and St. Joseph, Mich. There also will be a display of science fiction creations. Visitors can ask Club members for LEGO construction tips as well as make their own LEGO creations from a large supply of colorful bricks.

Children ages 2-16 years old can enter at each of the 10 participating Build Your Way Around Town locations. Winners will be announced each week at Facebook.com/stjoetoday.

Children can play BINGO for prizes at any of these half-hour sessions. To gain free admission to play BINGO only, enter the brown door on the south side of the museum. Families who want to spend more time interacting with the museum’s dozens of hands-on learning exhibits can pay admission at the main entrance then come downstairs to play BINGO.

Your children can create at “free play” tables:

Ages 5-12 years: LEGO lighthouses
Ages 8+ years: LEGO St. Joseph historic houses and boats
All Ages: Listen to lighthouse and historical stories read on the hour by the museum staff.
Ages 5-12 years: Enter free drawings for LEGO lighthouse build kits. The winners will be notified at 4:00 p.m.

Using LEGO’s Architecture Studio design toolkit, your child will work with a team to design and build a skyscraper. Pre-register at krasl.org/education/youth/camps/.
March 21 | Stop-Motion LEGO Animation Challenge Workshop | 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 to 4:00 p.m | Krasl Art Center | 707 Lake Boulevard, St. Joseph | ages 8-12 years
Your young animator will team up with other kids to create short stop-motion animations using LEGO characters, bricks and iPads. You and the public can view the final videos on the Krasl Art Center’s YouTube page. Pre-register at krasl.org/education/youth/camps/.

Bring your children for DUPLO and LEGO “free play” on either of these two Saturdays. While you are there, be awed by the talent of local students in the Elementary Schools Art Show that runs March 14-28.

Bring your kids to meet the Easter Bunny and get a free prize egg (ages up to 12 years). Then ride the Carousel and see if your children will be one of the random riders to win a free ice cream cone from Kilwins.
