Five Ways to Celebrate Spring In and Around St. Joseph

Planning a spring trip to Southwest Michigan

The weather is warming up in Southwest Michigan and the telltale signs of spring are popping up all over. Daffodils are peeking out of the ground, blossoms are budding on the trees, and the sweet smell of spring is filling the countryside. St. Joseph is full of spring fun — here are some of our favorites!

  1. April 17: 5th Annual Celebrate Spring at White Pine Winery:
Shake off your cabin fever with food and wine pairings at this downtown St. Joseph Winery. Tickets are limited, so reserve your spot today!
  2. May 4: Blossomtime Grand Floral Parade:
This 113-year-old tradition kicks off in St. Joseph and crosses the Bicentennial Bridge into Benton Harbor with 120 units from around Southwest Michigan! Bring the family to enjoy bands, floats, antique vehicles, unicycles and more.
  3. May 5: Antiques on the Bluff:
Walk through beautiful Lake Bluff Park (overlooking Lake Michigan) at the first Antiques on the Bluff event of the season! St. Joseph Today brings in antiquers from all around the area for unique finds. Be sure to plan for lunch in downtown St. Joseph and time shopping at the unique shops along our brick-lined streets for the whole experience.
  4. Walk through the wildflowers at Fernwood Botanical Garden:
Get back to nature at the beautiful Fernwood Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve. Walk the grounds to see the natural flora and fauna of Southwest Michigan. Follow the trails (varying in distance from 0.04 miles and above) and get some fresh air in a scenic environment. Don’t forget to stay for lunch in the cafe!
  5. Earn prizes while exploring the arts in Southwest Michigan:
April is the last month to earn great prizes in this year’s Creative Pursuit! Check out the cultural scene in the area (16 different destinations are participating) and earn a $20 gift certificate, artwork by Joshua Nowicki, and an all-weather blanket. But be sure to plan your stay before April 30th and turn in your game card by May 9 in order to get your gear!
