Event Description:The Heritage Museum and Cultural Center welcomes the public to “The Story of Saluto Foods Corporation,” an illustrated presentation by company co-founder James P. DeLapa, on Thursday, September 21, at 6:30pm. No admission fee is required, but a suggested donation of $5 will help support the mission of the Heritage Museum. In 1963, Jim and Judy DeLapa started a takeout pizzeria near Benton Harbor High School. Selling out of a 20-by-22 foot converted garage, Pasquale’s Pizza Pit thrived by serving a quality pizza. In less than a decade the business grew to become a national frozen pizza brand. The company was sold to General Mills in 1976. Come hear the Saluto company’s story from its co-founder and learn how they achieved the American Dream. Jim and Judy are both graduates of Michigan State University. Jim was honored as the Michigan Small Businessman of the Year by President Gerald Ford in 1976. The Heritage Museum is located at 601 Main Street in St. Joseph, Michigan, at the beautiful Priscilla U. Byrns Center. Admission to all exhibits is free. For more information, call the Heritage Museum at 269-983-1191 or visit www.theheritagemcc.org.
