Loudon Wainwright III's "Surviving Twin"

The Acorn Theater

Three Oaks, MI 49128

Event Date:03/30/2017

Event Description:Loudon Wainwright III has an illustrious career, with over two dozen album releases, a 2010 Grammy, and he is best known for the song “Dead Skunk (in the Middle of the Road)”, and for playing Captain Calvin Spalding on the TV show, "Mash." His songs have been recorded by Bonnie Raitt, Johnny Cash, Earl Scruggs, Kate & Anna McGarrigle, Rufus Wainwright, and Mose Allison. As an actor, Wainwright has worked with Martin Scorsese, Hal Ashby, Christopher Guest, Tim Burton, Cameron Crowe, and Judd Apatow. Loudon Wainwright’s most recent project is his one-man play entitled “Surviving Twin.” A solo piece many years in the making, Surviving Twin is what the singer-songwriter calls a “posthumous collaboration” with his writer father. Part concert, part dramatic reading, part family slide-show, it is a hybrid theatrical form consisting mainly of songs written by Loudon III, along with readings of magazine columns written by his late father, Loudon Jr., and photographs that span four generations.

Shawn Mullins w/opener Rick Brantley

Acorn Theater
107 Generations Drive
Three Oaks, MI 49128
Contact Name: Acorn Theater
269-756-3879

Event Date:04/06/2017

Event Description:Singer-songwriter Shawn Mullins readily admits that several of the songs on his new album, My Stupid Heart, address his perceived relationship failures. In fact, many were written as he was falling out of his third marriage; in the title tune, he actually chides himself for being such a romantic. But it’s also a bit of a joke, he says, because he firmly believes in following his heart — no matter where it leads. That oh-so-fallible, yet essential part of our being is, it turns out, the guiding force behind just about every song on the album — the theme of which, he says, is summed up most succinctly by another song title: “It All Comes Down to Love.” Shawn will be performing on the Acorn Theater's intimate stage! Be sure to catch this special show! Brantley’s brand-new EP, LO-FI, leans into his thoughtful, thought-provoking side. His songs have been covered by artists ranging from Meat Loaf to country crooner David Nail. Brantley achieves a raw but rich acoustic sound.

An Evening with Singer-Songwriter Michael McDermott

Acorn Theater

Three Oaks, MI 49128
Contact Name: Acorn Theater
269-756-3879

Event Date:04/22/2017

Event Description:Michael McDermott’s brand of rock n’ roll brims with the kind of well-honed style and wisdom that can only come from a career on the road and a pedigree in the studio. Effortlessly blending natural folk sensibility, pop hooks, and honest rock, McDermott’s music is as much for the outcast as the congregation. It’s an exploration of the dark corners of life’s journey and it resonates middle class truths through the passionate filter of a kid that grew up on Chicago’s Irish South Side. If you are a fan of Springsteen, Van Morrison, John Steinbeck, Patti Smith ... McDermott’s inspirational rock is in your wheelhouse, waiting late night with a guitar, spare smokes and stories of the American heart. Supporting Michael for the evening is artist Heather Horton.

NEW BUFFALO, MI 49117
Contact Name: Four Winds Casino
8664946371

Event Date:04/29/2017

Event Description:The O'Jays are touring history, a connection to an era and a sound that formed the soundtrack for the lives of several generations. The O'Jays are still hitting the road with the same electrifying energy they've had for over 50 years. In 1972, Gamble & Huff, a team of producers and songwriters with whom the O'Jays had been working for several years, signed the group to their Philadelphia International label. With this magic formula, often called The Sound of Philadelphia, The O'Jays scored the first number 1 and million-seller, "Backstabbers." Subsequently, they succeeded with various chart-topping pop and R&B singles including "Love Train," "Put Your Hands Together," "For The Love of Money," "I Love Music," "Darlin' Darlin' Baby (Sweet, Tender, Love)," "Livin' For The Weekend" and "Use Ta Be My Girl." This success propelled The O'Jays to be the first black vocal group to perform in arenas throughout America during the 70s and 80s. Eddie Levert Sr., Walter Williams Sr. and Eric Nolan Grant, who joined the group in 1995, continue to thrill fans today. Throughout their career The O'Jays have achieved 10 Gold albums, 9 Platinum albums and 10 #1 hits. It's been a long journey but thanks to the fans the LOVE TRAIN is still going strong!

Letters Home

The Mendel Center at Lake Michigan College
2755 E. Napier Avenue
Benton Harbor, MI 49022
Contact Name:
269-927-1221

Event Date:05/21/2017

Event Description:LETTERS HOME puts the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq front and center by bringing to life actual letters written by soldiers serving in the Middle East. The production is inspired by the New York Times Op-Ed Article “The Things They Wrote” and the subsequent HBO documentary Last Letters Home. Without politicizing, the play paints a powerful portrait of the soldier experience in the war. These letters were written under the most difficult of circumstances; the disorientation of training, deployment, separation from family and loved ones and combat, and occupation duties in Afghanistan and Iraq. One theme unites their diverse voices; the belief that the person standing beside you is more important than you are. A portion of the proceeds from this performance will go to support Lest We Forget. Sponsored by Wolverine Mutual Insurance Co., Holiday Inn Express - St. Joseph, News/Talk 94.9 WSJM

Event Description:Melissa Etheridge stormed onto the American rock scene in 1988 with the release of her critically acclaimed self-titled debut album, which led to an appearance on the 1989 Grammy Awards show. Known for her confessional lyrics and raspy, smoky vocals, Etheridge has remained one of America's favorite female singer-songwriters for more than two decades. In February 2007, Melissa Etheridge celebrated a career milestone with a victory in the Best Song category at the Academy® Awards for "I Need to Wake Up," written for the Al Gore documentary on global warming, "An Inconvenient Truth". In a review of her latest album, Guitar World raved "the album is a triumphant application of Etheridge's signature rasp and substantial guitar chops...," while Edge Media Network declared Melissa "is a singer who can fire it up like Janis Joplin, touch the heart like Elvis Presley and steam up the windows like her musical hero, Otis Redding."
