Benton Harbor, MI 49022
Contact Name: The Mendel Center at Lake Michigan College
269-927-8700

Event Date:01/12/2018

Event Description:Some people might call May Erlewine “Michigan’s Songbird,” but her songs have traveled far beyond her home state. One of the most prolific and passionate songwriters of her generation, May’s music has touched the hearts of people all over the world. Her words have held solace for weary hearts, offered a light in the darkness, and held a lot of space for the pain and joy of being alive in these times. When she starts to sing, there’s no way around it. Welcome to the moment, everyone. May pulls from a wide variety of sounds and influences to create her unique musical landscape. You’ll hear traditional folk roots, old time country swing, soul, and rock and roll but mostly she’s inspired by the hearts of the people and the one in her chest. This music is about feeling and it’s about telling life’s stories. Before the show and during intermission, The Livery will be on hand with a selection of their craft brews as well as their spent grain pizzas for sampling. Sponsored by The Southwestern Michigan Tourist Council and The Livery

Event Description:At 36 years old Jonny Lang has already had a successful career for two decades. He released his first platinum record at 15. Lie to Me revealed a talent that transcended the crop of blues prodigies floating around in the late '90s. No flashy re-hasher of classic blues licks, even at that early age Lang was a fullblown artist with a style of his own. Also, setting Lang apart from the wunderkind crowd was a 15-yearold voice that sounded like a weathered soul shouter. Actual life experience was yet to come, and has been subsequently chronicled in a series of five albums. His latest album, Signs, will release September 8.

Event Date:01/20/2018

Event Description:The Isley Brothers began singing together as youngsters in the early 1950s and today are considered one of the most important and influential groups of the last half-century. Ronald, Rudolph, Kelly and Vernon started out as a gospel group, performing in churches and other venues throughout their hometown of Cincinnati. Though raised primarily on the sounds of gospel music, the family band went on to experiment and record under the genres of doo-wop, R&B, rock 'n' roll, soul, Motown, funk, quiet storm, disco, pop and hip-hop, all the while remaining true to their vision and voice. After leaving Cincinnati in 1957 for New York City, the group scored their first hit with the call-and-response classic "Shout" (now covered by countless bands across the country) and in 1962 reached true mainstream success with "Twist and Shout," which became their first Top 40 hit on both the pop and R&B charts. At the end of the decade, their hit "It's Your Thing" earned them the 1969 Grammy Award for Best R&B Vocal Performance.

Four Winds Casino

New Buffalo, MI 49117
Contact Name: Four Winds Casino
8664946371 Fax: 8664946371

Event Date:06/30/2018

Event Description:Early in 1968, a group of British musicians joined together in Luton, a town north of London, to form Jethro Tull. They began playing in pubs and clubs throughout southern England, eventually landing a standing gig at London’s famous Marquee Club in Soho. The first album, This Was, was released in late 1968, followed by Stand Up, Benefit, Aqualung and Thick As a Brick. Various band members came and went, but the charismatic front man and composer, flutist and singer Ian Anderson, continued to lead the group through its various musical incarnations. By the mid-70s, Jethro Tull was one of the most successful live performing acts on the world stage, rivaling Led Zeppelin, Elton John and the Rolling Stones. Today, with over 30 albums selling more than 50 million copies, Jethro Tull continues to perform over 100 concerts each year. The lineup for the 2018 tour is Ian Anderson (flute, vocals, acoustic guitar); Florian Opahle (guitarist); Scott Hammond (drummer); John O’Hara (piano, accordion, vocals); and David Goodier (bass guitar, vocals).

Opening Date:08/04/2018

Closing Date:08/05/2018

Event Description:The Fort St. Joseph (FSJ) Archaeological Project is a collaboration between Western Michigan University (WMU) and the City of Niles, Michigan with support from the greater community. The FSJ Project offers a variety of opportunities for the public to get involved as a means of sharing knowledge about local archaeological investigations and the history of the City of Niles, MI. Fort St. Joseph, founded in 1691, was an important French mission, trading post, and military garrison until it was abandoned in 1781. During its time, FSJ was controlled by four countries; France, Britain, Spain, and America, as well as multiple Native American Indian Tribes, including the Potawatomi. In 1998, Niles’ Support the Fort, Inc. called on WMU’s Dr. Michael Nassaney to conduct an investigation to locate Fort St. Joseph. Over the last 20 years, Dr. Nassaney and teams of WMU students have worked to uncover the history of Niles’ Fort St. Joseph in conjunction with WMU’s Archaeological Field School, which is certified by the Register for Professional Archaeologists. Join us Saturday, August 4 & Sunday, August 5 10:00am – 4:00pm at the corner of Fort and Bond Streets in Niles, MI for our annual Archaeology Open House that is FREE and open to the public. People of all ages are invited to attend to: - Meet WMU archaeologists working at the FSJ archaeological site - Observe period demonstrations at the Living History Village - Explore the active FSJ archaeological site - Participate in children’s activities and crafts - View recently uncovered artifacts - Listen to period music and participate in period dance
