Beaches, Rivers, Lakes & Public Access Sites
Whether you enjoy swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, kite flying, volleyball, or just sleeping in the sun, you'll find Southwestern Michigan's sandy beaches the perfect places to relax and unwind. Five rivers and more than 250 inland lakes await you in Southwestern Michigan for sailing, racing, canoeing, kayaking, water tubing, aqua biking, or just floating on a water mattress. The St. Joseph River, Michigan's second largest river, offers medium-fast to quiet waters for boaters. It runs through Buchanan, Berrien Springs, Niles and St. Joseph-Benton Harbor in Berrien County. The Galien River quietly flows from Galien to New Troy, through Warren Woods State Park and past Union Pier into Lake Michigan. The Black River winds through South Haven and Bangor into Lake Michigan while the Paw Paw River runs through Paw Paw, Lawrence, and Hartford in Van Buren County. Both are quiet rivers without rapids.
